Blog #4: in the vignette," the was an old woman....." Talks about Rosa Vargas and her kids. At the end of the chapter it talks about Angel Vargas's death. When it says " he exploded down to earth. " the word exploded to me means he shattered his bones or bled to death. Then it said " without even an oh. " This means that when neighbors saw him fall they didn't do anything. He's bleeding , he's dead, there's nothing you can do anymore. It also talks about how rude and trouble makers the kids are. I believe they behave like this to get their mothers attention. - Ashley Sanchez
Blog #5: in the vignette, "what Sally said" talks about how Sally's father hits her. When Sally says "he never hits me hard" I think she is just trying to cover up for her dad. I think that she doesn't want to tell anyone because maybe her dad will get mad and hit her again. When it said that Sally's dad hit her with his fist Sally probably didn't expect that because he always hits her with the belt. When Sally's dad catches her with a boy Sally doesn't come to back to school. He beat her up so hard that she didn't come to school for a week. Sally and her mother are trapped in a cycle of abuse.
Blog#1 in the vignette," Hairs" It talks about how Esparanza's family has different types of hair. It also hints that those hair types show things about their personalities. I think that she talks about her mom in such a way that it makes her seem still very young. The wording, Such as pretty and little candy circles, shows that she's still dependent on her mom. She talks about her dad as if he is strict. She says that his hair is like a broom, Sticking up straight.
Blog #6: in the vignette, "red clowns" the narrator talks about how she got raped. THe text does not actually state that Esperanza was raped but you can draw the inference when the narrator say's, " I couldn't make them go away. I Couldn't do anything but cry. I don't Remember. Please don't make me tell it all." Esperanza does not blame the boys who did this but instead blame Sally. I think Sally is not a good friend because she left Esperanza to get a boys attention. Esperanza a says that she doesn't want to tell it all. I believe that if Esperanza tells it all it Maybe the only way for her to make The transition through this terrible experience. I Think that the Red Clowns Laughing means or symbolizes that Esperanza's childhood is boer or her innocence is gone.
Blog#7: in the vignette linoleum roses the narrator talks about how Sally has gotten married. Sally is trapped-A prisoner in her own home. When Sally says that one time her husband got mad and broke the door you can tell that there is no love and this is an abusive marriage. Sally escapes her father but is still living with a man just as oppressive. In my opinion Real roses symbolize true love and beauty. She has linoleum roses which symbolize fake in this Case fake love. I believe she has given up every aspect of freedom. Sally's house is not her own it is more like a cage.
Blog#8: in the vignette a house of my own the narrator talks about her house. When she says it is not a man's house I think she means Free of controlling and abusive power that we have read repeatedly throughout the book. When She say's it is not a daddy's house she means that she does not want to have children. The house is her own now and she can care for herself. Next to her bed she has books with stories inside. This also leads us to her true identity a reader, a writer, and a storyteller. When she say's clean as paper before the poem she means a new start. One that she will create.
Blog#9: in The vignette Darius and the clouds the narrator talks about the sky. Esperanza talks about how beautiful things take her away from Mango Street. The sky symbolizes safety, freedom, and perhaps limitless opportunities. Also symbolizes heaven for Darius. He is able to pick out God in the clouds. Esperanza say's that in mango street there's too much sadness and not enough sky. There is not enough freedom, not enough safety, and little of God's presence. This shows a character, Darius who can find freedom, Beauty and God's presence in bad settings.
Blog#2 in the vignette "Marin" it talks about a girl named Marin. She talks about a boy that she wants to marry. She writes letters to him in secret and wants to runaway to Puerto Rico. I think that the fact that she wants to run away shows that even she is tired of Mango street and wants a better life. I think that it's ironic that Marin's parents came to America to have a better life and Marin is going to Puerto Rico to have a better life. She sits on her lawn with a cigarette on her lips and stares as the boys go by. She is teaching Esparanza that all she is there for is so the boys can stare and she can stare with a black face back.
Blog#3 in the vignette "There was an old lady she had so many children she didn't know what to do" it talks about a single mother who was left with children and not enough money to support them. I think that they use the example of bologna when they talk about the father is to show that he left nothing that they couldn't buy something as cheap as bologna. I feel bad for the family and almost dislike the father because that is a common story that should never be repeated. When they talk about the children I think that the kids are just acting out to get their mothers attention. The whole community is tired of taking care of these children and they just let the children run around on their own. When it says that angel vargas learned to fly I think it means that he either committed suicide or fell on accident. I think that he fell because he was either tired of his life or no one cared enough to watch him.
Blog#4 in the vignette " Alicia who sees mice" it talks about a girl named Alicia who's mom passed away and has to get up early and make food for her younger siblings and father. She also stays up late to do school work and she sees that mice come out. Her father doesn't believe her and I think that's a sign that her father still thinks of her as a child and doesn't take her skills or abilities in to consideration. In the part where it says that she doesn't want to spend her life in a factory or behind a rolling pin is a very inspirational line. It is because it shows that she is a good example of a working class women who wants to make something of her self. The line that says that she is afraid of nothing but four-legged fur. And fathers it talks about her father being maybe abusive towards her or he could be strict and feel that his place as a man is to be dominant. I do not agree with that and I think that this vignette I my opinion is a very strong example of hard work and dedication.
Blog#10: in the vignette gil's furniture bought and sold talks about a junk store. Esperanza thinks the music box is a pretty box with flowers on it and a ballerina inside but turns out it's just a wooden box that old. Esperanza has one mental image of the music box, an image that fits the dream of a more prettier, beautiful life(For example the dream of a more beautiful house.) and is disappointed. The music box also means something to Gil because he won't sell it. Gills music box represents the same beauty that Esperanza wants(a more beautiful life). Esperanza is not the only person in the neighborhood with hopes for beauty and a better life. Esperanza is connected to Gil, Even if she doesn't know it.
Blog#5 in the vignette "Hips" it talks about how the girls go threw a change and develop hips. Not an uncommon thing in girls but they think of them as toys. They say that it is better to play jump rope with. They said that one day they have nothing and the next -BAM- They have hips. It is a magical thing in their innocent eyes. It shows how young these girls really are that they think that the human body changing is a magical thing. It also shows that they are under educated
Blog#6 In the vignette "The first job" it talks about Esparanza's new job that she lied to get. It shows that she is growing up and is helping support the family. Her first day at her job reminds me of my first days in a new grade. Very scary and shy and not a lot of people to talk to. The man that she talks to seems nice at first but deeper into the reading and he takes advantage of her. I feel that the experience is new and frightening to her. She is a little girl that is scared and is pushed in to the real world to fast or early.
Blog#7 in this vignette "Papa who wakes up tired in the dark" it talks about how the families grandpa or "Abuelito" dies and the father tells Esparanza first because she is older. This shows that she is older and she will have more responsibilities and problems she will have to face. She is scared of course and doesn't know what to do because the man who is supposed to be strong is crying. She hugs him to show affection and to show him that she can be strong. This relates to me on a personal level because I have to do that when ever a family member cries. I have to be strong and I can never cry myself so I keep things bottled in. This is the worst thing that Esparanza can do to herself.
Blog#8 in this vignette "Minerva writes poems" it talks about a girl who is in a bad relationship. She writes poems and exchanges them with Esparanza to read. She has a Boyfriend who is abusive. She asks advice from Esparanza but never gets an answer. It says that the next week she always comes over with new bruises asking what to do. This is a very sensitive topic but it is something so little discussed.
Blog #3 In the vignette "those who don't" I feel like Esperanza is trying to express the way other people view her neighborhood as. She says "they think we are dangerous" to me this is a racist remark considering she lives in a Latino community. The assumptions the people make about her neighboorhood shows they think they are dangerous because they are Mexican and don't come from a very rich community. "All brown all around, we are safe." This passage shows how Esperanza's neighboorhood could also be racist because they only feel safe around their own color. But it could also be used to show how the isolate themselves because they don't like to be judged. I feel like it still is that way today especially I'm schools. When I walk around durning lunch time I can see different groups of people particularly of the same race who seperate from others.
Blog#4 In the vignette "rafaela who drinks coconut and papaya juice on Tuesdays" is about a relationship in which Rafaela's husbands locks her away from the rest of the world. This vignette reminds me of a case that happened not too long ago when a man trapped 3 girls in this attic for 15 years. Also a very similar novel was made about this vignette it's also about a man who traps women away from everyone else. " This vignette shows how some men view females as animals so much so that they lock them away from society.
Blog#9 in the vignette "What sally said "it talks about a girl named sally who is being abused by her father. She says he never hits me hard which shows that she is in denial that he is hurting her. It also shows that she doesn't want to get him in trouble. She comes to school with bruises and lies that she fell. She is a pretty girl and no one ever believes her. Sally feels bad for her father because he cries after he hits her. She wants to help him and she thinks that she can do that by staying.
Blog#10 In this vignette "Red clowns" it talks about how Esparanza was sexually assaulted or raped at the carnival. She is there with sally because she just wanted to hang out with her friend. Sally left her to hang out with a boy and told Esparanza to wait for her by the red clowns. And its kind of ironic because she says that sally and everything else says that her first time will be fun and perfect but it ends up being scary. That is how the red clowns tie in to this. Clowns are supposed to be fun and happy but in reality most people have bad experiences with them. So the line the red clowns laughing their thick-tongue laugh is saying how mocking the clowns felt, like a reminder of that moment.
Blog# 5 In the vignette "bums in the attic" Esperanza talks about how she would love to live on the hill with all the rich people. When I first read this I thought she was referring to Hollywood. She describes how she thinks the rich look down on everyone else when she says " People who live on hills sleep so close to the stars they forget those of us who live too much on earth." She also claims they don't notice anyone when she says "nothing wakes them but the wind."
Blog #6 In the vignette "Papa who wakes up tired in the dark" touches a difficult topic of losing family members. Esperanza's grandfather passes away and papa who has never even showed any emotions of being sad starts to cry. Esperanza realizes she has to step up and support her family. Today this same thing happened to me one of my close friends grandmother passed away so I had to step up and comfort her when no one else seemed to care. I think just like I did Esperanza has to do more than she's used to to support her family especially her papa.
Dj#7 In the vignette "linoleum roses" Sally sets another bad example for Esperanza. In this vignette Sally marries an older business man. To me it sounds like Sally is trying to be a "gold digger". She even married him in another state just because she was too young. Why couldn't she wait? Did she really want his money that bad? There is a racist remark in this vignette as well. The line says "she met a marshmallow salesman" is she trying to imply that just because he is white he makes more money?
Blog#8 In the vignette "a house of my own" Esperanza pretty much bashes her house on mango street. This vignette somewhat angers me because Esperanza is very ungrateful. It bothers me how she complains about having a house that doesn't meet her expectations when so many people are homeless. Why can't she just accept what she has?
Blog #3 - Ramiro Muniz : In the vignette " There was an old woman...", Sandra Cisneros describes a family that has many reckless kids. I fell like the mother never tries to calm them down anymore because she is annoyed by them and busy trying to support her family by working because she is divorced. The kids can be refered as reckless because in the sentence " Come down, you come down right now, and then they just spit." This prove that the children don't care about rules or anything and are reckless. The mother or anybody gave up on them because in the sentence, "...just like a falling star, he exploded down to earth without even an Oh." This means that he fell off a roof and nobody cared or even said "oh". I honestly wouldn't even care either because if they won't listen then they have to learn the hard way.
Blog #4 - Ramiro Muniz - In the story, "Red Clowns", the narrator, Esperanza, describes her feeling toward what happened to her. I think that she was sexually assaulted because when she says, "I couldn't make them go away". Esperanza kind of blames Sally because she says that Sally never told her it was going to be that way. Sally liked being by the boys and influenced Esperanza to be like her but Esperanza is too young whether to tell it was a good thing or a bad thing to be like Sally. I think that red clowns referred to the boys who might have been part of the scene because she says that she was waiting for Sally by the Red Clowns and Sally never came back. Esperanza should be friends with Sally because of the way she acts. Esperanza didn't even like going to carnivals but she just went for Sally. Esperanza should realize that Sally is not the type of friend for her.
Blog #5 - Ramiro - In the story, " What Sally Said", the narrator talks about Sally's family and her special father. Sally's dad is special because he seems to be bipolar and Sally says that he hits her and then he because sorry for what he does. Sally says ," He never hit me hard". This is a sign that he hits her a lot. Sally doesn't want to confront him or tell anybody but leaves the problem without a solution. She seems to be covering him up. This problem escalates when Sally's dad sees her talking to a guy. She says that she got beat up so hard, that she didn't go to school for a week. Sally's mother is also very ignorant because she knows of this problem but doesn't do anything to stop it and says to leave him alone, that it's just a phase. I think that they should try to find a solution for this problem by seeking for help or just staying away from him for a while.
Blog #4 -Jimena- In the vignette "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros, "Red Clowns," the narrator describes how Esperanza and Sally agree to go the carnival to spend together, but Sally never showed up. Esperanza explains how she does not like to go the carnivals, but she when anyway to spend time with her friend." The one who grabbed me by the arm, he wouldn't let me go. He said I love you, Spanish girl, I love you, and pressed his sour mouth to mine." this quote means that she got sexually assaulted at the carnival while waiting for Sally. "Their high black gym shoes ran." This explains that she didn't just got sexually assaulted by just one guy, but multiple guys. Her first time wasn't like what people see in t.v shows, storybooks, and movies.
Blog #5 -Jimena- In the vignette "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros, "What Sally Said," the narrator describes Sally lies about getting hit by her father. " He never hits me hard." This quote means that Sally doesn't want to admit that father actually hurts her, so she lies about it and says that fell down the stairs. Sally is scare to speak up and say the truth. "When the dark came her father, whose eyes were little from crying, knocked on the door and said please come back, this is the last time. And she said daddy and went home." This means that whenever her father is stressed he gets it out in Sally and when is not he said that he is never going to hit her ever again. Sally fell into his trap. "Until one day Sally's father catches her talking to a boy and the next day she doesn't come to school, And the next. Until the way Sally tells it, he went crazy, he forgot he was her father between the buckle and the belt." It seems like every time Sally's father hits her, he hits her like if she was a dog. He is so in to hitting her that he forget that he is her father.
Blog #6 - Ramiro Muniz -In the story, "A Smart Cookie" the narrator describes how her mom could have been a star or something, but didn't have the money to do it. She describes how her mother was smart and couldn't become an opera singer or anything because she didn't have the "clothes" , but had the brains. Esperanza says that her mother is smart and would do a lot of things like sing loudly like an opera singer. Her mother gives Esperanza advice to follow her dreams and to not quit school like herself. Esperanza's mom dropped school because she didn't have nice clothes. I think that that wasn't a good reason to drop school. If someone would make fun of you, then ignore them. Obviously, if they're wasting their time making fun of you, they're not getting anywhere being like that. I think that Esperanza should follow her mother's advice and not ruin her life being bad things
Blog #7 - Ramiro Muniz - In the story, "Bums in the Attic" Esperanza describes how her family admires a house that is up on the hill. Esperanza is ashamed of going to the house on the hill because she thinks of it as "staring at the window like the hungry". Basically she is saying that they stare at the better house like if they had no house at all. She is exaggerating too much and shouldn't be ashamed of what she has. To me, Esperanza seems ungrateful because she doesn't appreciate what she already has. She also says that one day she will own one of these houses and if a bum asks for a stay, she will let them stay in the attic. She is imagining too far and should appreciate that she has a mother that works hard for her family and a roof to live under.
Blog #8 - Ramiro Muniz - In the story, Alicia and I Taking on Edna's steps" Esperanza and Alicia talk about where live. Esperanza first describes how Alicia has a purse that says Guadalajara, Alicia's home. Esperanza wishes she has a place to refer to as home just like Alicia could refer Guadalajara as her home. Alicia tries to make Esperanza think that 4006 Mango Street is Esperanza's home but Esperanza denies it every time. I think that Esperanza should accept who she is and where she lives. It's better than nothing. And the most important thing is that her parents are actually trying to support their family and trying to cheer up Esperanza.
Blog #9 - Ramiro Muniz - In the vignette, " Linoleum Roses" Esperanza describes how Sally got married just to escape her parents. Sally got married with a guy that sales marshmallows at the school. Esperanza describes how Sally got married in another state just because it was a state that allowed marriage before the eighth grade. I think this is ridiculous because she is really rushing into thing without even thinking about the consequences that it could cause. She left her parents a has a house with her husband. Sally says that she like to be married because she can do "whatever she wants" however , she immediately lists the things her husband doesn't let do. Her husband is very possessive because he let her talk on the phone with friends or even look out the window. I think that it was a bad decision for Sally to get married because she doesn't really know him and he already has gotten mad and broke the door.
Blog #10-Ramiro Muniz- In the story," Mango says goodbye sometimes" the narrator describes how one day she will move to another place. She is saying that she has lived in a lot of houses, but the one she remembers the most, is the the house on Mango street because of its red and gloomy feeling. She says that she doesn't belong in that house and one day will gather all of her book and paper to move away and say goodbye to this old house. I think that she will move but not find her dream house. I think that she is too picky since she didn't like the house on Mango. She says that friends will miss her but she will come back one day for her family. I think that she will come back but to come back forever regretting her decision of moving.
Blog #6 -Jimena- In the vignette "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros, "Papa Who Wakes Up Tired in the Dark," the narrator describes she always thought of her father stronger and brave, but when his father he came into Esperanza's room to tell the bad news he started crying. " I have never seen my papa cry and don't know what to do." Since Esperanza haven't seen her father cry before she doesn't know if you should hug him or leave him alone for he can have some alone time. "Because I am the oldest, my father has told me first an d now it is my turn to tell the others." Esperanza now has this big responsibility to explain to her little brothers and sisters. "And I think if my own Papa died what would I do." Now Esperanza is questioning herself how it will be when she looses her own father.
Blog #7 -Jimena- In the vignette "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros, "Bums in the Attic," the narrator describes how Esperanza is ashamed of got she got. She has a dream that she will have a house in the hills like the rich people. "People who live on hills sleep so close to the stars they forget those of us who live too much on earth." This mean that the rich people who live in the hills forget about the "poor people" as Esperanza would put it. "When we win the lottery...Mama begins, and then I stop listening." Every time her mother brings put the "what if's" or "when we get this" she stops caring because she believes that it will never become true. That it is just a fantasy. "One day I'll own my own house, but I won't forget who I am or where I came from." Esperanza states that when she owns her owe home should will never forget about where she came form or how poor she was.
Blog #8 -Jimena- In the vignette "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros, "Alicia and I Talking on Edna's Steps," the narrator describes how Esperanza is being a negative people because is talking to Alicia about have she is never had house. but she doesn't think of all the future homes is going to have. "You live right here, 4006 Mango, Alicia says and points to the house I am ashamed of." Why is she ashamed of her house in Mango Street? She should be happy that she has a roof over her head. It is not about how that house look, it is about having a house with the basics. Esperanza should be more grateful.
Blog #3 In the vignette, Alicia who sees mice, the author writes about Alicia who is a hard working student and daughter. The text states that Alicia's mother died and Alicia is the oldest woman in the house and is forced to care for her father who seems to be addicted to drugs or alcohol, because he shows the sign such as fatigue, laziness and, aggression. I think that is shown through the mice, who seem to be up very early when Alicia and NOT her father is awake, cooking for her family.
Blog #4 The Vignette Darius and the clouds, is about a troubled kid who believes in a higher power, like God. In the vignette, Darius tells Esperanza and a group of kids that the largest cloud in the sky is God. This opens the reader up to interpret that Esperanza and her family are most likely religious given by the reactions of Esperanza.
Blog #5 The Vignette, A Rice Sandwich, is based on the topic of peer pressure and curiosity. Esperanza was curious about what the Canteen was and without people telling her, she felt pressured to ask her mom if she could go. Her mother was completely against the idea, but Esperanza was so strong willed that eventually she got what she wanted, but it wasn't as great as she thought it would be.
Blog #6 In the Vignette, “Red Clowns,” after a group of boys has sexually assaulted her at a carnival. Esperanza repeats the accusation that her friend, Sally, lied, blaming Sally for the assault instead of the boys who have hurt her. Esperanza blames Sally for not returning after she goes off with an older boy but then, Esperanza is angry that girls perpetuate the myth that sex goes hand in hand with love. “I love you, Spanish girl” is a traumatic voice replaying in Esperanza's mind , when in reality false love has no place in the picture of sex that popular culture and media shows young impressionable minds.
Blog #7 "She looked out the window her whole life, the way so many women sit their sadness on an elbow. I wonder if she made the best with what she got or was she sorry because she couldn’t be all the things she wanted to be. Esperanza. I have inherited her name, but I don’t want to inherit her place by the window." Is a quote from the vignette "My Name". Esperanza talks about what her name means and who it is from. To her, Esperanza is a horrible thing. Esperanza was the name of her grandmother as well who never achieved her dreams and that is why she hates her name. It also says her name means Hope. That draws irony, because of all of things Esperanza has, confidence self-assertion etc., Hope is the only thing she lacks.
Blog #8 In the vignette "Red Balloon" the narrator writes "Until then I am a red balloon, a balloon tied to an anchor" This quite stands out because it emphasizes that I once again of all things Esperanza has flowing in and out of her. Hope is the only thing she doesn't have. She doesn't think it will get better and she is stuck in the world. The meaning if the balloon is that she is free, she is open and confident. But the anchor represents her past and present. Right now, things aren't so well fr Esperanza and she is always hopeless when it comes to getting out of that situation.
Blog #9 In the Vignette "Linoleum Roses" Esperanza's friend Sally, is taken to another state to get married to an older man. Esperanza suspects that Sally got married to escape her family, but in reality, the way Sally's father treated her is exactly how Sally's Husband treats her. Very violent and aggressive, not letting her talk on the phone, go outside, or even look out the window. This is another prime example, like Marin, that maybe marriage doesn't solve all of your problems and maybe even causes more.
Blog # 10 In the final vignette "Mangos say goodbye sometimes" Esperanza talks about how she views herself as a story teller. That she has always wanted to fit in but never allowed herself to. Even though she's leaving Mango Street she will never forget it. Living on Mango Street has played a big part in her life. While on Mango Street she's had lots of struggles and triumphs but the main point is that she had to open up to get the triumphs, that is why she tells stories, so when people need to be triumphant, they just think of Esperanza and do it her way.

ReplyDeleteI think that she says that to show that he is stressed or harsh.

ReplyDeleteBlog#7: in the vignette linoleum roses the narrator talks about how Sally has gotten married. Sally is trapped-A prisoner in her own home. ReplyDeleteBlog#2 in the vignette "Marin" it talks about a girl named Marin.

The whole community is tired of taking care of these children and they just let the children run around on their own. When it says that angel vargas learned to fly I think it means that he either committed suicide or fell on accident. I think that he fell because he was either tired of his life or no one cared enough to watch him.
ReplyDeleteBlog#4 in the vignette " Alicia who sees mice" it talks about a girl named Alicia who's mom passed away and has to get up early and make food for her younger siblings and father.
ReplyDeleteBlog#10: in the vignette gil's furniture bought and sold talks about a junk store.
ReplyDeleteBlog#5 in the vignette "Hips" it talks about how the girls go threw a change and develop hips.
ReplyDeleteBlog#6 In the vignette "The first job" it talks about Esparanza's new job that she lied to get.
ReplyDeleteBlog#7 in this vignette "Papa who wakes up tired in the dark" it talks about how the families grandpa or "Abuelito" dies and the father tells Esparanza first because she is older.
ReplyDeleteBlog#8 in this vignette "Minerva writes poems" it talks about a girl who is in a bad relationship. She writes poems and exchanges them with Esparanza to read. She has a Boyfriend who is abusive. She asks advice from Esparanza but never gets an answer. It says that the next week she always comes over with new bruises asking what to do. This is a very sensitive topic but it is something so little discussed.
ReplyDeleteBlog #3 In the vignette "those who don't" I feel like Esperanza is trying to express the way other people view her neighborhood as.
ReplyDeleteBlog#4 In the vignette "rafaela who drinks coconut and papaya juice on Tuesdays" is about a relationship in which Rafaela's husbands locks her away from the rest of the world. This vignette reminds me of a case that happened not too long ago when a man trapped 3 girls in this attic for 15 years. Also a very similar novel was made about this vignette it's also about a man who traps women away from everyone else. " This vignette shows how some men view females as animals so much so that they lock them away from society.
ReplyDeleteBlog#9 in the vignette "What sally said "it talks about a girl named sally who is being abused by her father.
ReplyDeleteBlog#10 In this vignette "Red clowns" it talks about how Esparanza was sexually assaulted or raped at the carnival.
ReplyDeleteBlog# 5 In the vignette "bums in the attic" Esperanza talks about how she would love to live on the hill with all the rich people. When I first read this I thought she was referring to Hollywood. She describes how she thinks the rich look down on everyone else when she says " People who live on hills sleep so close to the stars they forget those of us who live too much on earth." She also claims they don't notice anyone when she says "nothing wakes them but the wind."
ReplyDeleteBlog #6 In the vignette "Papa who wakes up tired in the dark" touches a difficult topic of losing family members.
ReplyDeleteDj#7 In the vignette "linoleum roses" Sally sets another bad example for Esperanza.
ReplyDeleteBlog#8 In the vignette "a house of my own" Esperanza pretty much bashes her house on mango street. This vignette somewhat angers me because Esperanza is very ungrateful. It bothers me how she complains about having a house that doesn't meet her expectations when so many people are homeless. Why can't she just accept what she has?
ReplyDeleteAlso she complains when she says "nobody's garbage to pick up after" everyone has to work hard in life she doesn't get special treatment!
DeleteBlog #3 - Ramiro Muniz : In the vignette " There was an old woman...", Sandra Cisneros describes a family that has many reckless kids.

ReplyDeleteBlog #4 - Ramiro Muniz - In the story, "Red Clowns", the narrator, Esperanza, describes her feeling toward what happened to her.

ReplyDeleteBlog #5 - Ramiro - In the story, " What Sally Said", the narrator talks about Sally's family and her special father.

ReplyDeleteIn the vignette "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros, "Red Clowns," the narrator describes how Esperanza and Sally agree to go the carnival to spend together, but Sally never showed up.

ReplyDeleteIn the vignette "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros, "What Sally Said," the narrator describes Sally lies about getting hit by her father.
ReplyDeleteBlog #7 - Ramiro Muniz - In the story, "Bums in the Attic" Esperanza describes how her family admires a house that is up on the hill.
ReplyDeleteBlog #8 - Ramiro Muniz - In the story, Alicia and I Taking on Edna's steps" Esperanza and Alicia talk about where live.
DeleteBlog #9 - Ramiro Muniz - In the vignette, " Linoleum Roses" Esperanza describes how Sally got married just to escape her parents.
ReplyDeleteBlog #10-Ramiro Muniz- In the story," Mango says goodbye sometimes" the narrator describes how one day she will move to another place.

ReplyDeleteIn the vignette "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros, "Papa Who Wakes Up Tired in the Dark," the narrator describes she always thought of her father stronger and brave, but when his father he came into Esperanza's room to tell the bad news he started crying.

ReplyDeleteIn the vignette "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros, "Bums in the Attic," the narrator describes how Esperanza is ashamed of got she got.

ReplyDeleteIn the vignette "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros, "Alicia and I Talking on Edna's Steps," the narrator describes how Esperanza is being a negative people because is talking to Alicia about have she is never had house. but she doesn't think of all the future homes is going to have. "You live right here, 4006 Mango, Alicia says and points to the house I am ashamed of." Why is she ashamed of her house in Mango Street? She should be happy that she has a roof over her head. It is not about how that house look, it is about having a house with the basics. Esperanza should be more grateful.

ReplyDeleteIn the vignette, Alicia who sees mice, the author writes about Alicia who is a hard working student and daughter.

The Vignette Darius and the clouds, is about a troubled kid who believes in a higher power, like God. In the vignette, Darius tells Esperanza and a group of kids that the largest cloud in the sky is God. This opens the reader up to interpret that Esperanza and her family are most likely religious given by the reactions of Esperanza.

The Vignette, A Rice Sandwich, is based on the topic of peer pressure and curiosity. Esperanza was curious about what the Canteen was and without people telling her, she felt pressured to ask her mom if she could go. Her mother was completely against the idea, but Esperanza was so strong willed that eventually she got what she wanted, but it wasn't as great as she thought it would be.

ReplyDeleteIn the Vignette, “Red Clowns,” after a group of boys has sexually assaulted her at a carnival.

"She looked out the window her whole life, the way so many women sit their sadness on an elbow.

In the vignette "Red Balloon" the narrator writes "Until then I am a red balloon, a balloon tied to an anchor" This quite stands out because it emphasizes that I once again of all things Esperanza has flowing in and out of her.

In the Vignette "Linoleum Roses" Esperanza's friend Sally, is taken to another state to get married to an older man.

In the final vignette "Mangos say goodbye sometimes" Esperanza talks about how she views herself as a story teller.
